Resurrectional Apolytikion.
Mode pl. 2.
When the angelic
powers appeared at
Your grave, the
soldiers guarding it feared
and became as dead.
And standing by the
sepulcher was Mary who
was seeking Your
immaculate body. You
devastated Hades, not
afflicted by it. You
went to meet the virgin,
and granted eternal
life. You resurrected from
the dead. O Lord, glory to You.

Resurrectional Kontakion.
When the Life-bestower Christ God had
resurrected with His
vivifying hand, from the
dismal caverns, all
the dead from eternity, He
freely bestowed
resurrection on the substance
of our mortal humanity.
For He is the Savior
of all, resurrection
and life, and the God of all
things.

The Holy Protection of the Theotokos
The feast day celebrates the appearance of
the Mother of God at Blachernae (Vlaherna) in the tenth century. At the end of
St. Andrei (Andrew of
Constantinople) Yurodivyi's
life, he, with his disciple St. Epiphanius, and a
group of people, saw the Mother of God, St. John the Baptist, and several other saints and angels during a vigil in the
Church of Blachernae, nearby the city gates. The Blachernae Palace church
was where several of her relics were kept. The relics
were her robe, veil, and part of her belt that had been transferred from
Palestine during the fifth century.
The Theotokos approached the center of the
church, knelt down and remained in prayer for a long time. Her
face was drowned in tears. Then she took her veil (cerement) off and
spread it over the people as a sign of protection. During the time, the
people in the city were threatened by a barbarian invasion. After the
appearance of the Mother of God, the danger was averted and the city was
spared from bloodshed and suffering.
Apolytikion
of Holy Protection of the Theotokos
Fourth Tone
O Virgin, we extol the great grace of
thy Protection, which thou didst spread out like a bright cloud beyond
all understanding; for thou dost invisibly protect thy people from the
foe's every assault. Since we have thee as our shelter and certain help,
we cry to thee with our whole soul: Glory to thy great deeds, O most pure
Maid. Glory to thy shelter most divine. Glory to thy care and providence
for us, O spotless one.
Kontakion of Holy Protection of the
Theotokos
Third Tone
Let us the
faithful hasten to the Theotokos now and venerate her sacred veil, as we
chant unto her, singing hymns to praise and honour her, as is fitting;
for she shelt'reth with her shelter and all her
faithful flock and preserveth them unharmed
from all calamities, as they cry to her: Rejoice, Protection most
radiant.
The
Holy Hieromartyr Cyprian and the Virgin Martyr
Justina
Saint Justina who was from Damascus, lived
in virginity for the sake of Christ. Saint Cyprian, who was from Antioch,
began as an initiate of magic and worshipper of the demons. A certain
foolish young man who had been smitten with Justina's beauty hired Cyprian
to draw her to love him; when Cyprian had wed every demonic device he
knew, and had failed, being repulsed by the power of Christ Whom Justina
invoked, he understood the weakness of the demons and came to know the
truth. Delivered from demonic delusion, he came to Christ and burned all
his books of magic, was baptized, and later ascended the episcopal throne
in his country. Later, he and Justina were arrested by the Count of
Damascus, and having endured many torments at his hands, they were sent
finally to Diocletian in Nicomedia, where they were beheaded about the
year 304.
Apolytikion of Martyrs Cyprian and
Justina
Fourth Tone
As a sharer of the ways and a successor to
the throne of the Apostles, O inspired of God, thou foundest
discipline to be a means of ascent to divine vision. Wherefore, having
rightly divided the word of truth, thou didst also contest for the Faith
even unto blood, O Hieromartyr Cyprian.
Intercede with Christ our God that our souls be saved.
Kontakion of Martyrs Cyprian and Justina
First Tone
When thou, O
godly-minded one, hadst been converted from
magic art to knowledge of God, thou becamest a
most skilful healer for the whole world, O wise
Cyprian, granting cures to them that honour thee with Justina; with her,
pray the man-befriending Master to save us, thy servants who sing thy
praise.
